Teen Shoots Himself in the Face With Rifle

In quite possibly the strongest case for parents to keep their guns locked up, an Amarillo teen is in serious condition after shooting himself in the face with a high powered rifle.

The 16 year old said he didn’t know the gun was loaded, and somehow pointed it towards his face and fired it. He was with two other kids at his barn in Childress County, from where he was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital.

No Freeze For the Panhandle, Warm For Halloween

With the glaring exception of Donley and Collingsworth counties, the first freeze of the year was slated to come last night in the Texas panhandle. It would have come a week later than average, which is October 20.

Luckily for hotblooded Texas, it didn’t exactly freeze, and temperatures are expected to pick back up soon – tonight, lows will be just above freezing. No freezes should occur through this week, either.

Whooping Cough Cases on the Rise in Amarillo

Instances of pertussis, or whooping cough, are on the rise in the Amarillo area.

The warning comes from the Amarillo Bi-City-County Health District after three local children were afflicted with the cough. Pertussis causes seemingly interminable coughing bouts with coughs followed by the trademark “whooping” noise. Vomiting, shortness of breath and skin turning shades of blue are other things to watch for. Pertussis is life threatening for younger people and isn’t eased with traditional medicine.

The beginning of October marks the start of the pot harvest in Mexico, a harvest which ends in February for Mexican drug cartels – their number one cash crop, naturally. The cartels must make room for the new harvest, so they have to get rid of the old stuff by sending it over the Texas border.

Reports of Hot Air Balloon Being Shot Down Were False

If you heard that a hot air balloon was shot down in a race on Saturday near Amarillo, you were majorly misinformed, according to Swisher County police.

Reports from TV said that someone on the ground shot a hot air balloon out of the sky as it was in a race originating in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The reports said after it had been shot, the balloon had to make an emergency landing near Plainview. When authorities came to the alleged landing area, the balloon was there with the two occupants claiming they had been shot at.

Amarillo Man Runs Over Girlfriend With Truck

An argument led to a 26 year old Amarillo woman getting run over and killed by her boyfriend, according to a report in the Amarillo Globe.

Michael Buse, a 43 year old hothead from Amarillo, is now being charged with murder. Daisy Strout’s body was found crushed in the Chisum Building’s parking lot at 4:20 am Sunday. An investigation revealed that she was run over at a low speed, and an autopsy showed that her upper body was completely crushed by the Chevy Avalanche.

Airport Search Humiliates Amarillo Woman, Lawsuit Filed

A young Amarillo woman who claims TSA agents humiliated her when searching her at a Corpus Christi airport is now suing the federal government for intentional infliction of emotional distress. The 23 year old college student says that while being frisked in a security check in May of 2008, the agent pulled down her blouse in sight of many onlookers.

She went on to claim that the agents were joking and laughing about the matter during the check. After the search, the humiliated woman continued through the security checkpoint while the agents continued to make fun of the situation.

Local Man in Serious Condition After Shooting

A local homeowner blasted a man with shots to the face last night, and police are investigating as to whether or not the man’s rearranged face was deserved.

A 33 year old named Carlos apparently drove up to the 37 year old homeowner’s house and started to walk towards it. At that time, the homeowner pulled out a gun and hit Carlos two or three times. One of the shots removed some of his teeth and went through the other side of his head.
