Large Wreck on 34th Puts Four in Hospital

Four people were taken to a local hospital after a gruesome crash on West 34th Avenue late Sunday evening.

The wreck occurred when a man traveling westbound in a pickup slammed into another truck and ran it off the road. The other truck rolled and landed in the front yard of a house on Rusk Street, prompting three of the occupants to be rushed to a local hospital.

After 23 Years, Man is Jailed for Murder

A murder victim and his family finally have justice – 23 years later.

Florencia Calzada was found dead in a Randall County ditch on December 7, 1986 from a gunshot wound at close range to the back of his head. Johnny Ray Klein, now 48, apparently pulled up to Calzada who was stranded in the ditch near Interstate 27, put a .22 cal to his head and pulled the trigger.

Popular Restaurant Destroyed by Fire

A popular north Amarillo restaurant was battered by a fire Saturday evening.

Broken glass, blackened metal and residual ashes now fill the parking lot of Tony’s Restaurant on the corner of Fillmore and NE 11th Street. Firefighters were called to the once-bustling restaurant at around 8pm Saturday as flames shot through the roof. Thirty firefighters from five units fought the flames and finally contained it with aerial ladders after three hours. The building still stands, but was damaged beyond recognition by the blaze.

Man Falls Asleep During Police Standoff

A suicidal Amarillo man fell asleep during a police standoff this morning.

Amarillo Police were tipped off by a worried family member who said the man was drinking heavily and had access to a plethora of guns. They got to the home at about 5 am to be greeted with the sound of a gunshot coming from the interior of the home on Cypress Point. It is unknown as to whether or not he was firing at the officers.

Death Marks Third Homicide in Two Days in Amarillo

The futility continues for Amarillo as a third homicide victim in as little as two days has been reported.

Ofelia Lopez’ husband called 911 at around 1:20 pm Friday because he came home to find her unconscious. She was dead upon paramedic arrival despite numerous attempts to revive her.

The results of an autopsy that was concluded Monday say the 52 year old was a victim of a homicide. She was originally scheduled for a normal autopsy, but the doctor referred her body to a criminal mortuary after discovering injuries to her nech and head.Further investigation showed that she died from a gunshot wound.

Man Shoots and Kills His Son After Argument

An investigation is underway by Potter-Randall Special Crimes investigators as to the reason a man shot his son Saturday.

Rodney Dunlap, 60, called 911 at about 7:50 pm to report a shooting that happened at his home just outside Amarillo. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the body of 33 year old Joshua Dunlap inside a recreational vehicle they were living in. He was found with an entry wound to his chest from a handgun.
